Newcastle United visit the Emirates on the back of six wins on the trot with their key forward, Alexander Isak, firing on all cylinders. Arsenal, on the other hand, has been in decent form, but their last performance in the 1-1 draw with Brighton and Hove Albion left a lot to be desired. It is agreed that the Carabao Cup is further down the list in terms of priorities but when you’re in the semifinal stage of this competition, you should be aiming to win it.
To team news, Arsenal head coach, Mikel Arteta, has very little room for maneuverability following the latest injuries suffered by Ethan Nwaneri after his good performance against Brighton. Kai Havertz is unlikely to start as well following his bout of illness and we can only be hopeful that Martin Odegaard and Gabriel Martinelli will be fit enough to start tonight. Myles Lewis-Skelly has done great with the minutes afforded, and with Riccardo Calafiori playing consistently on his return from injury, his minutes will need to be managed.
When Arsenal locked horns with Newcastle United early in the season, the Magpies ran out as at 1-0 winners with Isak scoring the only goal from a well-taken header. He has been on a very hot streak in recent weeks, so Gabriel and William Saliba will have their work cut out. Arteta hopes the fans will turn up the volume when the match takes place tonight.
