Thoughts on Barcelona’s Links with Thomas Partey

Arsenal defensive lynchpin, Thomas Partey, currently on the cross hairs of Barcelona, and has been eyed as a target for the Catalan giant next summer.

The Ghanaian midfielder has been an ever-present player for Arsenal this season and alongside Declan Rice, he has formed a fledgling partnership, but the presence of new signing, Mikel Merino, can threaten it.

Partey missed out on international duty following illness, a feat Arsenal fans have become accustomed to, seeing him miss so many games with injuries. On his day, Partey is unplayable, domineering the midfield, with an excellent passing range and close control.

However, there has been an elephant in the room – his contract situation. It was reported by TBR and it is firmly believed that Partey might be extending his time at Arsenal beyond next summer, as his contract is set to expire at the end of the campaign. Last season, Partey was heavily involved with a potential move to Saudi Arabia, but the move never materialized and he remained with Arsenal, making only 16 appearances for the club, as his campaign was blighted heavily by injuries.

Will Barcelona be a good fit for Partey?

Barcelona has struggled with financial difficulties in recent campaigns, so it’s evident that they jump at chances to get quality players on free transfers, so they will be able to approach Partey on a potential move from January 2025, if an agreement hasn’t been reached with Arsenal.

Partey spent a considerable chunk of his career in Spain, starting his career in Mallorca before staying at Atletico Madrid for six seasons before his release clause was activated in 2020. He will have no problems adapting to life in the Nou Camp under Hansi Flick and he wouldn’t have much competition for his place, should he decide to join Barcelona.
