I Tried It: Why these sunglasses were the best thing I used in 2025

Over the course of my life, I’ve always been serious about my sunglasses. I still remember buying my first pair, in high school, at the Armani outlet in Cabazon, Calif. What a feeling! Then, in college, flush from my summer job, I splurged on a pair of rhinestone-encrusted Chanels. I hemmed and hawed for weeks before pulling the trigger. Wearing them made me feel like a million bucks, but I was always terrified of losing them or damaging them in some way.

As the years went by, my taste gravitated more toward function over form. I became a mom, and my sunglasses became infant playthings. They frequently slipped or were grabbed off my head, and were routinely dropped, scratched and damaged seemingly immediately. I realized I couldn’t justify spending hundreds of dollars on designer frames when I couldn’t reliably maintain them.

Needless to say, I no longer own any Chanels or Armanis. Instead, I’ve been on a near-constant quest for stylish yet affordable frames that feed my need for fashion but won’t cause me to have a heart palpitation every time they clatter out of the car onto the parking lot.

That’s a lot of backstory to set up this revelation: Earlier this year, I received a few samples from a new-to-me sunglass brand: WMP Eyewear. (The WMP stands for (W)orn and (M)ade with (P)urpose.) The frame styles were exactly what I’m always looking for: trendy and slightly oversized with a subtle cat-eye shape. They’re lightweight and durable with crystal-clear lenses. I was an immediate fan.

In the months since I’ve received them, each pair has been outstanding, and I have worn them absolutely everywhere, including the golf course. They’re super comfortable, even underneath a hat. And even though I’ve dropped them dozens of times, somehow, I have yet to find a scratch. And the best part? They’re available at a price that doesn’t make them feel too precious. For the price of one “designer” pair, you can get a half-dozen or more cool styles from WMP Eyewear.

I’ve been wearing their lifestyle models, but they have golf-specific options too, endorsed by U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark.

In short, I’ve been thrilled to find a brand that ticks all the boxes when it comes to what I’m looking for in a pair of sunglasses for wear both on and off the course, and if you’re in the market for a new pair of shades, I’m confident you’ll find a style you’ll love too.
