Dia de los Muertos — or “Day of the Dead” in Spanish — is a Mexican holiday celebrated on Nov. 1-2. Ornate and colorful “sugar skulls” are used as ornamental gifts, which many people assume to be related in some way to Halloween. The celebration of Dia de los Muertos is in fact very different, though it falls on the calendar in nearly the same time frame.
Dia de los Muertos celebrations are intended to welcome departed souls back to earth for a brief visit. “Ofrendas,” or altars, are decorated with flowers, photos, mementos, candles, foods and beverages. The immediately recognizable sugar skulls are, in contrast with ghoulish and often frightening Halloween skulls, meant to represent and remember lost loved ones.
To commemorate Dia de los Muertos, TaylorMade has released a special limited-edition collection of sugar-skull emblazoned items, which includes three headcovers, a hat and a glove.
The driver and putter headcovers, which retail for $89.99 and $79.99, respectively, feature velour-lined interiors and intricate sugar skull artwork.
The Tour Preferred glove ($29.99) is constructed with AAA Cabrera Soft Tech leather, stretch fit tab adjustment and a moisture-wicking wristband, with the sugar skull on display on the tab.
The Ventura hat ($34.99) features the sugar skull on the front, a white rope across the front brim and a moisture-wicking sweatband.
