The mid-season changes to the FedEx Cup Playoffs eliminated the starting strokes format for the Tour Championship and altered how the prize money for the season-long race would be dispersed.
Instead of paying out the entire purse at $100 million bonus pool at the end of the Tour Championship, the PGA Tour Policy Board decided to pay out $20 million after the Wyndham Championship and $23 million after last week’s BMW Championship, leaving a $40 million purse up for grabs this week at East Lake, with the winner earning a $10 million check and two trophies.
Tommy Fleetwood arrived at East Lake just two weeks removed from his heartbreaking collapse at the FedEx St. Jude Championship, which saw Justin Rose storm back to claim his first win in two years. Still searching for his first PGA Tour win, Fleetwood opened the Tour Championship with rounds of 64, 63 and 67 to enter Sunday tied for the lead with Patrick Cantlay, who fired back-to-back 64s on Friday and Saturday to vault into contention.
On Sunday, Fleetwood extended his lead early as Cantlay opened with a bogey at No. 1 and a double at the second. Fleetwood’s lead shrank as they made the turn, but birdies at 12 and 13, and neither Cantaly nor the rest of the field could apply pressure coming down the stretch as Fleetwood claimed both the Tour Championship and the FedEx Cup.
Below is a breakdown of what everyone in the field earned this week in Atlanta to close the FedEx Cup season.
