Aston Villa are reportedly interested in signing young Barcelona midfielder Marc Casadó.
The promising talent from La Masia rose to prominence last season after teammate Marc Bernal suffered a serious injury as Barcelona continued to seek a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets.
Bernal and Casadó are both deep-lying midfielder players but have slightly different styles of play. In 2024/25, played regularly before sustaining his own injury and missing the last couple of months of the season.
Casadó’s prospects in 2025/26 could limited by the return of Bernal and it’s reported that Barcelona are willing to sell the 21-year-old, who is now represented by Jorge Mendes after changing agents with the first big move of his senior career on the cards.
According to reports, Villa could seek to bring Casadó in either during the current transfer window or in January. Wolverhampton Wanderers and Marseille are also understood to be interested.
Casadó isn’t necessarily desperate to move at this stage but his situation could easily change if he struggles for a foothold in the shadow of Bernal and Frenkie de Jong. Barcelona would benefit from the sale of an academy product both financially and in terms of UEFA restrictions.
Bernal might be being groomed as the eventual successor to Busquets but Casadó is yet to really find his place. He has enough versatility to play at centre-back and right-back as well as in midfield, where he thrives with the ball in his possession, passes progressively and efficiently, and can disrupt the opposition’s play too.
A Catalan native, Casadó made his senior debut for Barcelona’s first team under manager Xavi Hernandez during the 2022/23. He made his bow against Viktoria Plzeň in the last game of the group stage of that season’s Champions League.
He made just four appearance sin 2023/24 but was a regular under Hansi Flick as Barcelona won La Liga. He featured in 43 matches in all competitions, scoring once and making two of his six assists against Real Madrid in crucial wins against Barca’s big rivals.
