Milan Closing In on Modric, Set to Lose Reijnders

AC Milan are reportedly close to getting the signature of Luka Modric, who is leaving Real Madrid after the Club World Cup tournament. However, the Rossoneri will be parting ways with Tijjani Reijnders as he is set to join Manchester City.

Milan Edging Closer to Sign Modric

The Rossoneri are looking to add a bit more experience to their squad and are choosing the Croatian international as their target. Although Modric is not young anymore, Milan believes that his leadership and quality can still be useful for them next season.

The 2018 Ballon d’Or winner will end his chapter at Real Madrid after the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup tournament later this month. Los Blancos decided not to extend Modric’s contract, allowing him to join other clubs this summer.

Despite being close to 40 years old, the Croatian international is still attracting several suitors, and Milan is one of them. Reports from Italy suggest that the Rossoneri plan to offer a one-year deal plus a one-year option for Modric.

Milan’s new director, Igli Tare, has reportedly got a verbal agreement with the player with only a formal signature missing. The Red and Black squad are keen to close the deal soon, so they can avoid competitions from other clubs.

Milan and Man City Reached an Agreement for Reijnders

It’s not all positive news, though, for the Rossoneri fans, as although they are close to snatching Modric, Massimiliano Allegri’s side will be losing another star player. After selling Sandro Tonali in 2023, Milan are about to part ways with another midfielder, Tijjani Reijnders.

The Dutch international has become one of Man City’s targets for the new season, and he is keen on joining Pep Guardiola’s team. Milan’s failure to qualify for the Champions League next season seems to be an important factor for Reijnders, aside from the chances to work with Guardiola.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano and various media outlets, the Rossoneri and City have agreed on a deal worth 7o million euros for the Dutchman.  Although Milan fans might be expecting more, considering Reijnders’ excellent season, the player’s wish to join the Citizens seems to smooth things up for Guardiola’s side.

Losing Reijnders might be disappointing for the Rossoneri, but they are ready to look for replacements in the transfer market. Not only Modric, Milan also have other names they are targeting, with Torino’s Samuele Ricci being one of them.
