The U.S. Women’s Open is the most storied and prestigious major in women’s golf — and it has the purse to boot.
With $12 million being doled out this week at Erin Hills, the total purse at the U.S. Women’s Open is the largest in all of women’s golf. Thanks to a partnership with presenting sponsor Ally, the USGA was able to increase the total purse to $12 million last year.
This figure represents a 200 percent increase since 2014, and is more than double the $5.5 million purse for the tournament just four years ago.
The $2.4 million that the champion will receive is the largest winner’s check in all of women’s golf, save for the first-place prize for the LPGA’s CME Group Tour Championship.
The winner won’t be the only one taking home some serious cash this week. Each player in the top 10 will take home north of $280,000, while everyone in the top 25 will earn at least $100,000. Additionally, every professional in the field — regardless of whether they made or missed the cut — will earn $10,000 for the week.
