PSG Win First Champions League After Demolishing Inter

Paris Saint-Germain has finally fulfilled its long-time ambition of winning the UEFA Champions League trophy after beating Inter Milan. The Ligue 1 outfit won the biggest club football tournament in convincing fashion, scoring five goals against their opponent.

Les Parisiens’ ambition in grabbing the ultimate club football trophy in Europe has finally been accomplished their season. After coming close to winning it back in 2020, in which they lost to Bayern Munich, Luis Enrique’s side changed things around this year.

Despite such a tough start in the competition earlier this season, PSG were able to change things around. From losing 1-0 in that 2020 match, Les Parisiens went on to destroy the Nerazzurri 5-0 in this season’s final.

PSG’s domination was visible from the start as they controlled the game and went 1-0 up through Achraf Hakimi after 12 minutes. Desire Doue added the French side’s advantage on 20 minutes, giving them a comfortable two-goal lead going into the half-time break.

In the second half, Enrique’s men kept on piling the pressure as they added three more goals, with Doue scoring his second and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia adding the fourth, before Senny Mayulu completed the big win. That 5-0 victory is also the biggest win margin in the Champions League final, adding more pedigree to PSG’s dominance this season.

Since their takeover by Qatar Sports Investment back in 2011, the Champions League has been PSG’s longtime target following their domestic dominance. The decision to create a team-based football led by Enrique finally gave them that trophy after previous years of attempts by collecting star players.

Disappointment for Inter as They Go Trophyless

Meanwhile, Inter, who reached their second UCL final with Simone Inzaghi, left with more disappointment following another defeat. The Nerazzurri suffered a 1-0 defeat from Manchester City in 2023, and this time they got an even worse result.

Making things worse, after such a promising last few months, Inter ended their season without winning any trophies. Losing out in the Italian Super Cup, Coppa Italia, and Serie A, this final was Inzaghi’s men’s last hope for success this season.

Their dramatic semifinal glory over Barcelona didn’t seem to mean much as they got a 5-0 beating in the final. This match could also solidify Inzaghi’s plan to leave the club, with reports that he had a lucrative offer from Saudi Arabia.

Ending the season in a 5-0 loss, especially at the UCL final, is certainly not a pretty sight, but it’s something Inter must cope with. If Inzaghi does leave, the Nerazzurri could be on for an intriguing new chapter starting from next season.
