One tricky thing for a club fitter can be putting together their own golf bag.
While some have all the expertise in the world, like Ian Fraser, the founder of the Fraser Golf Institute, and essentially unlimited resources to try whatever clubs and shafts they need, they still lean on others for some help.
On this week’s episode of GOLF’s Fully Equipped, co-host Wadeh Maroun pointed out that in a recent video, Fraser was going back and forth between two drivers, a Titleist GT3 and a TaylorMade Qi35 LS. But Maroun asked him what he was doing about the putter, as he has played a Scotty Cameron Champions Choice blade for several years, but was recently fit into a mallet.
“When I was in Hong Kong and we got a full L.A.B. putter matrix, we got a full Scotty [Cameron] matrix. I tried a bunch of stuff,” Fraser said. “Honestly, none of it was any good for me. It was nice. And I just don’t putt that well with L.A.B. putters.”
Fraser said he was heading out to the Titleist Performance Institute to work with Paul Vizanko, Cameron’s director of player fitting and development, to see if they could find anything better. Fraser also said he works with Titleist’s senior director of player promotion, J.J. Van Wezenbeeck, for the top of his bag.

“I can’t wait to see what ends up happening there,” Maroun said. “Because that Champions Choice is pretty bloody hard to get out of your bag.”
But Fraser isn’t sure anything will really change given that he is about to start a big competitive schedule.
“Honestly, there’s a good chance that it doesn’t leave the bag because at this point. I mean, I’ve got a full Canadian amateur schedule of tournaments to play this year,” Fraser said. “I probably have a tournament schedule that’s probably got 20 events to play in.
“So I’m kind of taking this stuff a little bit seriously now. And the club revolving door, because obviously I’m not in that kind of space anymore. There’s not that much change going on.”
