Real Madrid grabbed a place in this season’s Copa Del Rey final after successfully eliminating Real Sociedad in the semifinal round. Los Blancos had to put on a dramatic fight though as they needed extra time to win 5-4 on aggregate.
Los Blancos had a 1-0 advantage ahead of their Copa Del Rey second-leg tie at Santiago Bernabeu on Tuesday. However, the tie got complicated early as Ander Barrenetxea scored for the visitor to make it 1-1 on aggregate.
That early goal seems to give Sociedad extra confidence as they gave so many problems for Carlo Ancelotti’s men. Despite Endrick’s equalizing goal in 30 minutes, the away team continued to pour forward and netted their second through David Alaba’s own goal on 72 minutes.
Mikel Oyarzabal put Sociedad 3-1 up with his goal on 80 minutes but two minutes later, Madrid made it 3-2. It was Jude Bellingham who got Madrid back before Aurelien Tchouameni put them back ahead on aggregate with his goal.
However, Sociedad’s fight was not done yet as they pushed the match to extra time with Oyarzabal’s second. Both teams continued to battle hard during the 2×15 minutes, but it was Madrid that came out on top.
Antonio Rudiger was the hero for Ancelotti’s side as his goal during extra time secured Los Blancos’ ticket to the Copa Del Rey final. Sociedad didn’t have any more answers as they had finally accepted their faith.
