Last week, Ecco released their latest addition to the Biom family with the H5 — a sporty shoe with a design that was inspired by the Scottish Highlands. (Check out the cool, rugged details on the outsole.)
How does the shoe perform in real life? Here are 3 things I loved about the pair I tested.

The men’s version of the Biom H5 comes in three colors (white, light gray and dark gray) while the women’s version comes in two (white and beige). I tested the all-white version of the shoes, which I love! I am a person who wears golf shoes for everyday life — school runs, errands, dog walks, you name it — so I always appreciate a shoe that has a lifestyle appeal. As soon as I opened the box, I knew I liked these right away for wear both and and off the course. The chunky, detailed sole ups the style quotient, and the traction is understated but still super functional. No cleat-clicking on concrete!
Anyone who appreciates a wide toe box will love the Biom G5. Thanks to European sizing, Eccos tend to feel roomy for me (I’m a US 7, which equates to European 38, and that encompasses US sizes 7-7.5). Thanks to the one-piece internal sock liner, you get that around-the-foot comfortable feel whether you wear socks or not. (If that sounds crazy, I live in Arizona, so I do opt for no socks sometimes!) Also, in addition to being comfortable, I’ve found that having the extra wiggle room for the toes gives me an extra sense of stability over the ball too.
I’m a big fan of the ability to slip-in and go. It’s great to not have to worry about laces coming untied, or even tying them to begin with. (I have yet to re-tie them after doing it once.) Another thing I love? Ecco’s performance-leather outer is waterproof, making it a perfect choice for both soggy days and dewey mornings.
