Arsenal’s injury woes continue to worse as Gabriel Magalhães joined the growing list of absentees.
The Brazilian defender was taken off after just 54 minutes in the Liverpool game. Arsenal and Liverpool played a thrilling draw at the Emirates last Sunday.
Bukayo Saka made his return from injury and put Arsenal ahead after just nine minutes. Virgil Van Dijk equalized from a corner just nine minutes later.
Mikel Merino headed home a well worked free kick to give Arsenal a 2-1 lead just before half time. The game was scrappy and tense for most of the second half before Mohammed Salah equalized in the 80th minute.
The Gunners were missing Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori for the game. Despite the result, Bukayo Saka felt Arsenal should have won the match.
A report from Football Insider claims Gabriel’s injury could be much worse than feared. Even though the Brazilian was able to walk off on his own after the injury, the report claims it might be a potential knee ligament injury.
According to Mikel Arteta, Gabriel is being assessed and nothing has been confirmed yet:
“We’re still assessing him,” the Spaniard said on Tuesday. “It doesn’t look that bad at all. He was much better the next day. Hopefully he’ll be fine.”
If Gabriel is truly set to miss an extended period of action, Arsenal will look to the transfer market in January according to former scout Mick Brown:
“They’re (Arsenal) definitely going to enter the transfer market,” he said. After Gabriel’s injury, the transfer team will be working overtime.
“They’ve already been looking at options to help the depth in that position.
“Saliba and Gabriel are so important to their team in that defensive unit and you need to know the level won’t drop if either of them are out. The defence is the reason Arsenal have become such a force.
“Finding new options for those positions is an issue that will be swamping them at the moment.
“The back four that ended the game against Liverpool is never going to be good enough to challenge for the title, so they’ll definitely be looking to improve that depth.”
Arsenal are reportedly also in the market for attacking players, as they look to beef up the squad from January. They have targeted one of the Premier League’s top scorers this season.
