Former Spurs striker says what Cole Palmer is doing this season makes Bukayo Saka look ordinary

Arsenal star Bukayo Saka limped out of England’s loss to Greece after a suspected hamstring issue.

He pulled up just before Greece scored the equalizer. The winger was assessed but was ruled out for Sunday night’s game against Finland. England interim boss Lee Carsley said the injury was less serious than initially feared:

“Bukayo would have been close but it would have been unfair to take a risk with him. He’s a positive person and I expect him to be fine.”

Saka has returned to London Colney and there has been no word on whether he will be fit in time for this weekend’s game against Bournemouth.

Darren Bent says Cole Palmer is having a better season than Bukayo Saka

Bukayo Saka has had a great start to the season, and became the first player in Arsenal history to provide an assist in each of the first four games of the Premier League season. The winger also created 8 chances and completed 8 dribbles in the win over Leicester City, a feat no player in the league has reached this season.

Saka also leads the league in assists. However, former Spurs striker Darren Bent is adamant Cole Palmer is having an even better campaign.

“It’s very much the here and now as well, and that’s the problem I think at times in this country. Saka has been at such a level for so long, that Palmer had that great year last year, started this season well, he must be better than Saka, but people almost forget that hold on, Saka has been at this level for three years now, Cole Palmer, like last year was his first proper kind of breakout season.”

The Chelsea star has 6 goals and 5 assists this campaign, a total just 2 more than Bukayo Saka who has 2 goals and 7 assists.

Bent then included Phil Foden, who is yet to score a goal or provide an assist this season, into the conversation:

“And yes, Phil Foden, really, really talented, won PFA Player of the Year last year, brilliant, but again naturally with the width, I think he’s more of a number 10 as well, but again because Saka, his levels have been there again for so long, people almost take that for granted. Well, Saka is only eight out of 10, Palmer’s better. That’s what the conversation is. Eight out of 10 is not seen as good enough anymore because Palmer last year maybe was a nine.”

Palmer got his chance with Saka out due to injury but failed to get on the scoresheet in both games. It will be exciting to see what happens when the Premier League resumes this weekend.
