Both Arsenal and Chelsea’s scouts have reportedly been impressed by Argentina’s U-20 talent Santiago Castr0. According to Caught Offside, Arsenal, Chelsea, Aston Villa, Everton and Nottingham Forest are all closely monitoring the Bologna forward.
Santiago Castra, aged 20 currently plies his trade in Italy with Serie A outfit Bologna. The Buenos Aires native is a former Argentina U15 and current Argentina U20 international.
His recent performances in both Serie A and UEFA Champions League have drawn a lot of attention in Europe. Having joined The Greyhounds in January this year, he took some time to adjust to life in Italy.
The Argentine didn’t make many appearances for Bologna last season. However, this season, Castro is up to an impressive start making the starting XI 86% of the time for The Greyhounds.
He also has an impressive 57% goal participation. The 20-year-old has scored three goals and assisted once this season, only a glimpse of his potential.
Castro started his career with Vélez Sarsfield and continued through the club’s ranks to the senior team. He made his first-team debut for El Fortín in 2021 and spent almost three senior seasons at the club.
During his time at the Argentine outfit, Castro made 64 appearances for the club. However, Santiago managed to only score nine goals and make two assists during his senior career in South America.
The 20-year-old has already matched the number of assists he made for Sarsfield in 17 games for Bologna. This shows his development and potential after moving to Europe.
Arsenal is a tempting destination for any new footballing talent coming through the ranks in Europe. The Gunners already have a pathway for the youngsters into the first team.
Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and William Saliba’s rise only prove the fact. Arsenal are way ahead of the competition in terms of sporting dominance.
Chelsea stands fourth in the Premier League right now as The Blues face a revamp under new owners Todd Boehly and Behdad Eghbali. A new manager only adds to the infancy of their project.
The Gunners on the other hand have been challenging for the Premier League title since Mikel Arteta took off at the Emirates. Arsenal will try to use this as leverage for upcoming talents from Europe and South America.
Other competitors like Everton, Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest don’t stand a chance when it comes to sporting success and financial backing enjoyed by Arsenal both historically and in recent times.
