Let’s start with the facts – Martin Odegaard suffered an ankle injury in Norway’s 2-1 win over Austria.
Reports have surfaced that he might be out for two to three months, and Mikel Arteta’s quotes in the pre-Atalanta preview confirmed his lengthy absence,
“The scan showed some damage around the ligaments in the ankle so we are going to miss him”
“It’s something quite significant so we are going to lose him for a while.”
These were the words from the horse’s mouth and Arsenal has been without its captain for the best part of one month. Yes, the Gunners have managed a scrappy win or two in his absence, but it takes nothing to see how our game has changed without Odegaard – the 4-4-2 formation, no one to lead the press from the opposition goalie, the vast amounts of creativity and the whole nine yards.
One month into his injury-enforced hiatus, Arsenal provided some encouraging updates on Odegaard, showing a video of the captain at London Colney, walking on an anti-gravity treadmill, and we felt very happy that he was going to lace up his boots and join his teammates.
Now, we read reports revealing that Odegaard has suffered a setback, and he’s now scheduled to be out till December 2024.
Should we trust these rumors or just wait for Mikel Arteta to provide valuable information in the next press conference next week? Arteta usually play his cards to his chest, especially regarding with injury news, so I’d take it by a pinch of salt.
