Thomas Partey has been an integral part of Mikel Arteta’s squad at Arsenal. The Ghanian midfielder has proved his mettle whenever fit and Arteta will continue to use the 31-year-old extensively.
The midfielder recently withdrew from Ghana’s squad in precaution to the upcoming Premier League clashes. The move seems to be purely precautionary just like Kai Havertz’s situation as the Partey will hope to return for the clash against AFC Bournemouth.
Although Partey’s journey at Arsenal started on an injury-packed note, the midfielder has secured a starting spot at the Emirates under Mikel Arteta.
His defensive capabilities and the ability to control the tempo of the game have been detrimental to The Gunners. However, the 31-year-old’s contract is due for extension as it expires at the end of the season.
According to Miguel Rico (h/t FCB World), FC Barcelona Sporting Director Deco is keen on having the midfielder again this coming summer.
The former Portuguese international tried to snub Partey before but Mikel Arteta blocked the move. The Blaugranes will come in full force for Thomas this season as free transfers have become their forte post-financial crisis.
With the contract expiring in June, the Ghanaian international is open to signing pre-contracts with any clubs post-new year. Arsenal will have to decide on Partey soon or lose the midfielder on a free.
There are conflicting reports online regarding the midfielder’s contract. It is set to expire in June 2025 is all the concrete information we have for now.
Whether Arsenal will extend Partay’s contract is to be seen. Some sources suggest that extension talks will be starting soon as the new year approaches.
On the other hand, some sources claim that there will be no extension and the midfielder will probably leave the club at the end of the season.
Thomas Partey’s performance this season might be of much bigger influence than ever. This might influence Arsenal and Arteta’s decision regarding the player’s contract.
The Ghanaian international has had a mixed bag of seasons after arriving at Arsenal. However, most of them have been satisfactory.
When the midfielder plays, he proves his worth in the squad but when he is injured, he always seems to be out for so long. However, this doesn’t downplay his impact at Arsenal till now.
The Gunners might also plan to sell him in the upcoming winter transfer window. Letting a player who was bought for £45 million looks like a waste. An exit in January is also possible if Arteta finds a replacement till then.
