Bournemouth Preview: Preseason Football Gets Underway

Nelson sends Arsenal into euphoria with last-gasp winner
fancy another Reiss Nelson last gasp winner?

Today’s preview for the Bournemouth game was somewhat confusing for me as the match is scheduled to take place by 3.30am on Thursday morning, but this is actually the best time to do the preview. Hey, it is what it is.

The squad arrived in United States a few days and had some great training sessions, but they are taking on a Bournemouth side that has already gotten one preseason game under their belt with a 1-1 draw with Wrexham. Marcos Senesi scored the only goal for Bournemouth, while their talismanic striker, Dominic Solanke, made a cameo and almost got on the score sheet. Arsenal has a very good record against Bournemouth, winning both games against them last season, scoring seven and conceding none. Then there was that last gasp winner against them two seasons ago.

One player I’m looking forward to seeing in action is Jurrien Timber, that had a surging start to his Arsenal career playing on the inverted left back role, before he was robbed by a cruel ACL injury. Despite playing in that left back role, Timber is also adept playing as a center back and right back, highlighting his amazing versatility,

“I have played everywhere in the back to be fair. Last pre-season I started a lot as a left-back and I enjoyed it as well so I am happy to play.

“I spoke about it with Ben White as well. I think it’s good to be versatile just to play more positions. You’re also able to get more minutes then, I think. And the coach can put you in more places. It’s nice for him as well. And I’m just hoping to play anywhere.”

“I think it [competition for places] is good. And it’s good for the team. At the end of the day, you want to win prizes and you need everyone for that. So, I think it’s fun and good for everyone to lift each other up.”

To team news, we would expect Gabriel, Gabriel Martinelli and Kai Havertz to join up with the gang at some point in the tour, so let’s see how that pans out. Karl Hein remains the only senior player in the squad with a couple of youngsters, while we have some key first teamers in the ranks, with a sprinkle of youngins.
