Barcelona are eager to secure Marcus Rashford on a permanent basis at the end of the season, though they hope to do so at a reduced fee compared to Manchester United’s expectations. The forward has settled quickly in Spain after joining on loan in July, marking his first professional experience outside of English football.
Rashford, who came through United’s academy and also enjoyed a brief spell on loan at Aston Villa earlier this year, has already impressed the Camp Nou crowd. Six appearances into his Barcelona career, he has registered two goals and one assist across competitions, underlining his swift adaptation to new surroundings. His standout moment came in the Champions League opener at St James’ Park, where he scored twice to deliver a vital win. Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon admitted afterwards that the display had been nothing short of remarkable.
Barcelona officials are now working out how to make the deal permanent. Reports indicate that they are targeting a fee of £25 million, close to the £26 million buy option originally agreed. However, Manchester United are considering raising the price to around £40 million in light of Rashford’s resurgence. With the forward contracted until 2028, United’s ownership have the power to renegotiate terms, a stance that could complicate or even scupper talks.
Manchester United are also monitoring the left flank with interest in Inter’s Federico Dimarco ahead of a possible January move. While their summer recruitment focused mainly on attacking reinforcements, the wing-back positions remained largely untouched, with only young Paraguayan Diego Leon arriving earlier in the year.
Patrick Dorgu has been first choice on the left under Ruben Amorim and has shown promise, but some within the club feel a more experienced option is required. According to reports in Italy, Amorim is keen on Dimarco, who has been a regular fixture for both Inter and the Italian national team in recent seasons. The 27-year-old has been praised for his explosive runs and striking ability, contributing 19 goals and 35 assists in nearly 200 appearances for the Nerazzurri. Brazilian great Roberto Carlos has even identified him as one of the leading full-backs in world football.
Inter may no longer see Dimarco as untouchable following managerial changes, with Christian Chivu reportedly favouring Carlos Augusto. Although the defender is under contract until 2027, the club could consider selling him before his market value drops. That said, Dimarco’s deep ties with Inter’s fanbase complicate any potential move. Having grown up a supporter himself, he maintains strong links with the ultras, and the hierarchy may be cautious about upsetting supporters by cashing in on a local favourite.
